Libertad Lamarque protagoniza este melodrama para consagrarse como una de las mejores actrices de la época. Basada en una radionovela argentina que fue adaptada por Edmundo Báez, tenemos la historia de Soledad, sirvienta de origan argentino que trabaja en una hacienda mexicana. El hijo del patrón la engaña y finge su matrimonio con ella, dejándola embarazada. Al darse cuenta de la mentira, Soledad huye. En la huida, se topa con un grupo de artistas que cambiarán el curso de la historia. Una película digna de admiración.

As a servant in wealthy woman's house, Soledad falls in love with and is married to the woman's son. While their marriage is carried out in secret, the two continue to meet in the barn nightly. When posed with the opportunity to marry a wealthy woman, the husband tells Soledad that their marriage is a fraud and she leaves the house during the night. Shortly thereafter, under a friend's care, she gives birth to a girl. She tries to raise her while singing in a nightclub. When her ex-mother-in-law visits her, requesting that Soledad allow her to take care of the baby, she reluctantly agrees, in hope that her daughter might be shielded from the harsh realities of her life.
