Description
The seventh edition will confirm the status of The World Atlas of Wine as the most essential and authoritative wine reference work. Reflecting the changing nature of the wine scene, the Atlas details developments in climate, technique and fashion as well as new regulations made over the last six years. A new Australian map highlights the importance of cool-climate regions as global warming takes effect, for example, while dynamic regions such as coastal Croatia, South Africa's Swartland and Ningxia in China are covered for the first time. The world's increasing appetite for wine is matched by a growing thirst for knowledge, which this book will amply satisfy.
Biographical or Historical Data
Hugh Johnson is a British author and expert on wine. He is considered the world's best-selling wine writer. His 1961 tasting of a bottle of 1540 Steinwein from the German vineyard Würzburger Stein is considered to potentially be one of the oldest wines to have ever been tasted. Johnson became a member of the Cambridge University Wine and Food Society while an undergraduate at King's College, Cambridge in the 1950s. He has been writing about sine since 1960 and has published a wide array of books. The World Atlas of Wine publication in 1971 was considered the first serious attempt to map the world's wine regions.
Biographical or Historical Data
Jancis Mary Robinson is a British wine critic, journalist and editor of wine literature. As a wine writer, she has become one of the world's leading writers of educational encyclopedic material on wine. She also provides advice for the wine cellar of Queen Elizabeth II.
