In the 1900s, Anne Hadden took books by mule into the wilds of Big Sur on the Pacific Coast in California. Here is her story, as told by Anne Hadden herself and by her great-niece Barbara Warren.

Includes many historical memoirs, letters and documents written by Anne Hadden. Also includes letters collected by Miss Hadden from patrons throughout Monterey County, and famous personalities of her time, such as John Steinbeck.
